Care & Wear

Recommended Latex Care Information

Latex is easy to look after, however there are a few differences to fabric garments. Here’s what you need to know to keep it looking beautiful and vibrant.

Be aware of sharp objects and fingernails, latex can tear if it is pulled too hard or snagged on something.  If there is a breakage it usually can be repaired. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any problems or questions.

Shiner

Apply shiner to both the inside and outside of tight fitting garments for easy dressing. Additional silicone or water-based latex polish can be applied when worn for a high gloss look. For this we recommend Pjur Cult. Do not use any other oil or silicone car oil.

Washing

Latex should be hand washed in warm soapy water and never put in the washing machine, dryer, or ironed.  Body wash, dishwashing liquid, or other mild soaps are recommended for cleaning.  When wet, the colour may whiten but this will fade as it dries.  Once rinsed in soapy water, you can rinse again with water containing Vivishine so that the latex has a protective layer of shiner.  Vivishine is my recommended shiner for mesh items. The garment can then drip dry.  Storing with shiner on the garment helps prolong the life and original colour of your garment.  Do not rinse mesh garments in fresh water without any soap or shiner and then leave to dry.  Completely clean latex will stick to itself and this can lead to damage.  Sheeting garments can be stored lightly talced if this is your preferred method.

Storage

Latex is a natural material and will degrade over time with exposure to oxygen, and this process is accelerated by heat and sunlight.  When not being worn, the garment should be stored neatly folded in the sealable plastic bag (provided upon purchase) in a drawer away from light.

Latex can discolour from contact with metals such as copper, brass, bronze, or nickel.  A layer of tissue paper between any metal hardware and the other areas of latex will prevent this. Light colours can even stain brown when handled after handling coins. Wash your hands before handling garments.

With love and care your latex will stay beautiful and be a fun addition to your wardrobe for years to come. I hope you enjoy wearing your garment as much as I enjoyed making it!
